Matar Puri Ingredients

  • For the Dough
  • Whole wheat flour (atta) – 2 cups

  • Salt – a pinch

  • Oil – 1 tablespoon

  • Water – as required

  • For Matar Stuffing
  • Green peas (fresh or frozen) – 1 cup

  • Green chilies – 1–2 (finely chopped)

  • Ginger – 1 teaspoon (grated)

  • Cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon

  • Garam masala – ½ teaspoon

  • Salt – to taste

  • Oil – 1 teaspoon

Directions

  • Prepare the Matar Filling
  • Grind green peas, green chilies, ginger, salt and cumin seeds into a coarse mixture.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add the mixture and cook until moisture evaporates. Add garam masala, mix well and let it cool.
  • Prepare the Dough
  • In a bowl, mix wheat flour, salt, oil and water to make a firm dough.
  • Cover and rest for 10–15 minutes.
  • Stuff the Puris
  • Divide the dough into small balls. Flatten slightly, place a spoonful of matar stuffing in the center, seal properly and gently roll.
  • Fry the Puris
  • Heat oil on medium flame. Fry the puris until they puff up and turn golden brown on both sides.
  • Remove and drain excess oil.
  • Your matar stuffed puri is ready to serve hot!
